The Journey from Pain to Purpose

Matt Toresco, Founder, CEO & CPO

Editor in Chief, Elavay: Patient Insights. Elevated Healthcare.

Matt is Founder, CEO & Chief Patient Officer at Archo Advocacy, LLC & Editor-in-Chief of the ELAVAY report. For the last 20 years, Matt has immersed himself in the healthcare industry, with focuses in market research, sales, commercial leadership, training & patient advocacy.

Matt is a trusted leader in the patient advocacy and account management training spaces & specializes in the relationship between patients, clinicians and the healthcare industry, working to guide parties on all sides of the table to elevate the voice of the patient. He understands the value of patient advocacy first hand as a spinal cord injury & chronic pain patient. It is this first hand experience that drives him year in and year out in his work. Matt uses his market research, first hand knowledge, and his vast experience to deliver deeply innovative programs to shift the thinking of commercial team leaders and drive team dynamics while always keeping an eye on the patient.

Prior to entering the consulting world, Matt led & developed Learning & Development programs at Counsyl, a next-generation DNA sequencing laboratory. There, he served in roles of sales, sales leadership, & account management, including calling on payers in the Northeast to drive changes in medical policy. He then moved into leading the learning & development department where he developed Women’s Health & Oncology programs at the dawn of personalized medicine.

Prior to Counsyl, Matt spent times with small companies like Eli Lilly, Genzyme & ImClone in varying divisions & roles.

When he is not traveling, or attending games at his alma mater, The Ohio State University, Matt spends time with his two daughters and his wife, Amy.  A native of the Jersey Shore, Matt now calls Charleston, South Carolina home, where his Jersey Shore nickname of “Meathead” will hopefully die out.

Ladies and gentlemen it is my pleasure to introduce Matt Toresco

From Broken to Whole

In 2005, Matt Toresco broke his neck as a Division I lacrosse player at The Ohio State University.

The injury went undiagnosed for four months.

It triggered nearly two decades of chronic pain, nine major spine surgeries, and 18 years of opioid dependence — before a patient advocate helped him find a new path.

In 2023, after a 13-hour reconstructive spinal surgery and six months of detox, Matt awoke pain-free for the first time in his adult life.

He calls it his re-birthday.

Today, Matt is the Founder and Chief Executive of Archo Advocacy and Editor-in-Chief of Elavay, the syndicated research platform elevating patient insights across healthcare.

He now brings his lived experience — and two decades of industry expertise — to stages, strategy rooms, and advocacy teams around the world.
